RFID: NORDENIA Receives Renowned Economics Prize

NORDENIA TECHNOLOGIES earned second place in the Muensterland Innovation Prize with a groundbreaking innovation in the area of radio frequency identification (RFID). The RFID technology makes it possible to recognize objects electronically via a transponder.

An award-winning product innovation: NORDENIA TECHNOLOGIES and its RFID antenna, which can be applied to packaging films by using the gravure printing process, achieved success at the Muensterland Innovation Prize.
The prize-winning process uses the gravure printing process to print RFID antennae on special films made from PET. The film is able to maintain its shape despite the high temperatures that are used to apply the tags. The RFID technology allows computers with integrated circuits to automatically identify and register packaging films without touching them. The identification of goods and product safety are particularly interesting areas of application.

The Group-wide research and development center achieved its success in the category “Cooperation between Economics and Science.” The Muensterland Innovation Prize is awarded by Aktion Muensterland, a group that is committed to strengthening the Muensterland region as an economic sector, every two years. NORDENIA won the prize in cooperation with the Muenster University of Applied Sciences at Steinfeld, Mühlbauer AG, and Delo AG.
